Brexit transition period begins
The European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020 came into force on 31 January 2020 when the UK ceased to be a member of the EU. The Act implements a transition period which will run until 31 December 2020. During the transition, the current rules on trade, travel, and business between the UK and EU will still apply. However, HMRC has advised exporters and importers to apply for a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number as soon as possible.
