Workplace testing – Lateral Flow Test
In January 2021, the Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced the national testing programme would be expanded to include asymptomatic testing on workers who cannot work from home during the national lockdown.
Private organisations now have access to two channels of testing; targeted community testing provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and institutional testing, where organisations will be able to set up in-house testing facilities.
Targeted community testing is coordinated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council Public Health and provides access to asymptomatic Lateral Flow Test (LFT) for critical workers who cannot work from home during the national lockdown.
Organisations that can access community testing in the East Riding include:
- Small or local public sector organisations, if prioritised by the local authority
- Charities and voluntary groups, if prioritised by the local authority
- Small or local private sector businesses providing key public services and unable to access institutional testing; this could include waste management, public transport, taxi firms, power and water companies etc.
- Education or childcare settings not covered by existing schools testing such as private nurseries, children homes, childminders etc.
- Medium sized local businesses (generally businesses between 50 and 250 staff) unable to practically access institutional testing
- Small or local businesses (generally less than 50 staff), sole traders or self-employed
If your organisation meets the above criteria, to express an interest for the community testing, please contact the council’s public health team by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org Organisations will need to provide details of the number of staff in the organisation and confirm they do not have access to LFT already and that employees are critical workers. If the criteria is met, employees will then be able to access the test twice a week and at the minimal level weekly.
The UK Government is offering Institutional Testing, which involves having asymptomatic testing on-site in the workplace. Businesses can find out further information and register an interest: https://www.gov.uk/get-workplace-coronavirus-tests
