Keep your eyes peeled for the East Yorkshire Walking Festival 2020! Taking on a virtual role, the festival will be jam-packed with ideas and tips to explore the great outdoors here in East Yorkshire - not mention a whole host of new activities to try! Dates and details to follow in the coming weeks. The festival is normally celebrated annually in September with a wide range of events over a number of days aimed at encouraging visitors to try new things and explore the area.
We’re currently working hard on campaigns for the Autumn/Winter season, one of which includes the Brid and Beyond campaign. The aim of this will be to extend the season in to the later months of the year and in to the new year by focusing on the idea of well-being and encouraging visitors to come to the coast in order to explore, escape and recharge. Please get in touch with us and let us know what your doing, any offers you have, or if you are extending your opening/offering in to Autumn/Winter, so we can include your businesses as part of the campaigns.
The Visit England Awards for Excellence 2020, hosted by TV presenter Julia Bradbury, are being streamed live online on Monday 17th August at 7pm, with the event commencing at 7.30pm. Join in with the virtual event and watch via the website, VisitEngland.org and YouTube channel, VisitEnglandBiz. The VHEY team would like to wish the two finalists from our area, Broadgate Farm in the Self-Catering Provider category and Hotham’s Gin in the Experience Category, the very best of luck - we’ll all be watching with our fingers crossed! You can also join the celebrations online by using the #VEAwards2020 when posting on social media.
Just a reminder - Work is well underway for the new Visit East Yorkshire website so we’d like to encourage all businesses that haven’t already done so already to please supply up to ten new high resolution images (please note your current images are NOT able to be transferred to the new site). All images must be landscape and the minimum size we require is 1220 pixels wide x 715 pixels high. Due to the number of images and file size it would be advisable to use the free and easy to use service WeTransfer; wetransfer.com and send to beverley.tic@eastriding.gov.uk
Please take the time to send your images to us as soon as possible and a big thank you to those businesses that have already done so.
Information from Government:
Consulting with Employees about returning to work
Businesses are expected to consult with employees with regard to how employees can work safely – the expectation being that employees should return to their work premises if they can do so in a Covid Safe manner. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/31-july-announcement
Eat Out to Help Out
Eat Out to Help Out launched on the 1st August with 72,000 businesses signed up to take part. There have been more than 3.3m hits on the restaurant finder webpage which suggests that they is considerable public demand for this initiative which should help a lot of businesses. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/eat-out-to-help-out-launches-today-with-government-paying-half-on-restaurant-bills
90 min Coronavirus Tests
The Government has announced that it will be introducing that two new tests that are able to detect the coronavirus in 90 minutes. Of particular note is that these tests do not require a trained health professional to operate them and can be used in non-clinical settings. This seems to increase the possibility of introducing a more sophisticated approach to people entering the UK than 14 day quarantining. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/roll-out-of-2-new-rapid-coronavirus-tests-ahead-of-winter
